   This is great. I am glad that someone is calling attention to this. My parents have a property that Countrywide refused an offer on, and the offer was barely ($3,000-after realtor’s fees) less than what is owed on the loan. Countrywide supposedly refused because the house appraised for $100,000 more than what my parents owe (in spite of the market being AWEFUL and the house being on the market for the last 1 1/2 years). Just to clarify…yes, the loss to Countrywide would have been $3K. You loose more than that driving a car off of a car lot.

   I really have issue with this. First and foremost Congressman Grayson says that the executives are “ripping off the taxpayers”. As a taxpayer I must say that I was not “ripped off” by the execs, I was ripped off by the federal government when they, not me decided to give the money to these failing companies. The market itself punishes bad business practices. The government intervention is preventing these consequences. If there had been no intervention from the government there would have been no bonuses!!

   Now the “need” for more regulation is ridiculous. We got into this situation because the federal government gave this money knowing that these contracts to execs existed and did not put any restrictions regarding bonus pay. Now they want open ended legislation again???? Wasn’t this the problem when they gave the money the first time? You would think that they would want things spelled out and clearly defined…

   This whole thing is ridiculous and this administration and Congress keep throwing money at sinking ships while, being a small business owner, if I make stupid mistakes I actually suffer the consequences. Go figure…action=consequence…

    After reading the few solutions provided by the feds I am reminded that Japan went through a similar situation when I was there 12 years ago. If anyone realizes, this didn’t work for Japan and their economy has yet to recover from that debacle.

    My question would be: Why is the government doing something worldwide that failed in a major economy? Are we so arrogant that the federal government can do it better?

    I’ve been saying for years that we need to have another tea party not just with Obama,although I didn’t vote for the man.
    Politians make way too much money and the fact that if they only serve one term are set for life,they get paid even after they are sent home or retire,and thats just wrong.
    If they want to serve as a senator or representative then pay them an honest salary,say $30,000 a year and when they get beat in an election the pay stops there.
    I have to work 30 or 40 years and still have to pinch pennies to make ends meet.
    They screw the veterans any way they can yet are not ashamed to give themselves a generous raise fairly often and that is wrong too.

    Yes, you are both right. As you know our current Admin. is pushing socialism and control of every business and everyone’s eles pay. However, our senators just approved themselves a 10% raise. For what? A job well done?
    We’ll rather than just complain I am recruiting folks to join me at one of the many Tea Partys. I’ll be at the Arizona State capital on April 15th with all my friends to help send a message that we will be voting to make a REAL CHANGE at the 2010 & 2012 elections.
    Most people wanted CHANGE not CHAINS. I pray we can stop this socialism or this so called global wealth redistribution movement before to much damage is done.

    Mary, I wanted to let you know your idea on limit on benefits for politicians is one of the best idea’s I have heard in a while. Maybe in line with their own bill or proposal of performance based pay that they are now going to enforce on corporate executives and others.
    We should all write our representatives now and let them know we want for example, their salary and benefit limitations to be based on “OUR COUNTRY” average salary, unemployment rate, (deductions over 6% avg.) and their benefits would only be as good as our social security benefits.

This situation may have partly come about because of deregulation and the fact that we let all manufacturing leave our country. This financial disaster is happening because of greed.     I don’t think we are necessarily blaming the government for the current economic situation, although it seems that way. I think what most Americans are upset about is the current administration making matters worse. It is their handling of the situation that has everyone upset. I absolutely agree that it has come about by greed. But the greed by “the people” does not even come close to the greed in the government. However much we think congressmen and senators make from lobbist’s, I’m sure is just a fraction of how much they really make. And the government wants to have their hands in everything now. Banking, the auto industry, private business. It is their greed and lust for more power and control that continues to make the situation worse. I think most people are angry because they don’t feel that they have any control over the situation, and that feeling of powerlessness can often manifest itself in the need to blame someone or something. Sometimes it is justified and sometimes it is not. I think some of the blame can definitely be placed on the conservatives and the right because of our complacency. We allowed Obama to be elected. We knew it would be bad, but I don’t know that we thought it would be this bad. It think that this tea party is at least a way for us to try to come together so we feel that we have a voice. I hope that on April 16th, we will be able to see how many attended all of the different tea parties around the country and know that we really aren’t alone, and if we really made an effort we could take our country back and get it heading in the right direction.

    Seems this is the route alot of criminals, con artists and terrorists take after they run a full scam, stealing peoples identities and money. they fake their own deaths so that people cannot be identified and caught. I have watched this in the State of IL for 10 years to date. I used to think they were with the CIA, until the CIA came out to investigate this. They were with some underground that was forgein financed. They create havoc, crime and identity theft. then Kill themselves off so that they do not need to be held responsible. They steal victims names and on the gravestones are the names of the crime victim, while they make everyone believe the passing is of the con artists.. Watch out for this. They are willing to investg$3,000 or so and often use VETERANS BENEFITS AND VA funeral benefits to cover their tracks and costs them less money. If they encounter you and find you have a relative that has passed. they move onto the next town using your dead relatives name cause they have enough info about you to REVIVE Them. Then later when they die, your dead relatives names are found on grave stones in the next city they ran their scams.

    What a racket. There’ll be discounts on the raw materials to get started and monumental government grants to build this turkey, as well as tax credits in the years to come. Furthermore, FPL plans to partially recover the cost of its investment by levying a surcharge on all of its EXISTING customers, none of whom – obviously – live in this new boondoggle. I’m not crazy about paying into something I’ll never benefit from. NO ONE but the developers and FPL will ever benefit, actually. How much would this really cost if it weren’t for the up-front and deferred government subsidies for this white elephant?

    Lastly – if clean, abundant energy is the real goal why isn’t anyone talking about nuclear power instead of wind and solar – eighteenth-century technology that, by itself, won’t be dependable enough to fully power this town?

    Actually building green doesn’t cost as much as some think. And, building any new power plant has its costs but this doesn’t have to cost anymore than a new electical plant ran off water or coal.

    Going green actually saves money and energy down the road and they could concievably sell extra power to nearby towns. Don’t knock new ideas just because you don’t think you will benifit. If it works, we all benifit wither we live there or not.

    These fishermen accidently caught a rare shark and it died being tanggled in the net. Well since it’s dead they had better go ahead and eat it. Since it is horrible to kill an animal or fish for sport, why let it go to waste and have died in vain. Ask this WWF Donsol Project Manager Elcon Aca, What are we supposed to do, just let it sit there and rot while you take pictures and tissue samples? Would it have been better to let it drift to the bottom of the sea? Sounds like Elcon Aca has his priorities mixed up or just can’t make a sensible decision. I wonder about the mindset of some people. Is he one of these people who believe that an dog is worth more than a starving man?

    I just went to the WWF website and read some of their white papers. According to Order 208 all rare species burried. Order? What are these people setting themselves up for? A new world wide force who set themselves up as a quasi judical movement. Conservation and respect for the earth and oceans I agree with, but what if this Elcon Aca had police powers.     Honestly, I dont see how someone that does nothing to contribute to the financial picture would deserve 1/2 in ANY case. I think people have a pretty generous picture painted of what they feel they “deserve” for staying married to someone… Like it’s work – if it’s work, you should have divorced a long time ago…

    I’m pretty sure she will take ALLL her lavish clothes and jewelry that she “earned”. I’m pretty sure he would be more than willing to put her in a financial position to live a very luxurious life…. Half his money? What picture of his did she appear in? What movie of hers made millions of dollars openening weekend? Which picture of hers was on the front page of TMZ?
